Myth and Reality inside the World of the Companion

Myth

Reality

1. Vampires can be repelled by the wolfsbane flower

Not true. Maybe connected to #3? Wolfsbane repels wolves. Someone got their myths mixed up.

2. Vampires can be repelled by garlic

Well, only in the sense that no one likes to be near someone with garlic breath

3. Vampires turn into bats or wolves

Not true. Probably invented to explain the ability to disappear and relocate quickly, especially at night

4. Vampires cannot stand to be in the presence of a cross, or are harmed by Holy Water and crosses

Not true. Vampires can be as religious as humans, take communion, and touch religious symbols. Usually they have at least gone through a period of religious belief in their lifetimes.

5. Vampires create other vampires by sucking a victims blood repeatedly

Au contraire, you would have to ingest the vampire's blood and the Companion in it, to become vampire.

6. Vampires need to sleep in the soil of their homeland

Ick! I can't imagine Julien or Stephan doing so except under extreme circumstances, certainly not as a daily ritual.

7. A stake to the heart will kill a vampire

Not at all. The Companion would heal such a wound rather quickly.

8. Vampires are incinerated by sunlight

Not true, though their skin and eyes are painfully sensitive to light. Vampires wear very dark glasses and cover their skin to go out in the light. It is still painful for them. As they grow more powerful it gets easier.

9. Vampires are the walking dead.

Absolutely not! I'm not in to necrophilia.
